Our Fasting rules are simple: If fasting and abstaining are too complicated no one will either remember it or do it.
Abstinence: No meat during Lent. No meat on Wednesdays and Fridays. (This does not mean you substitute lobster.)
Do not fast or abstain from after the Liturgy on Holy Saturday night until Pentecost Sunday in celebration of Pascha even on Wednesdays and Fridays!!!
Fasting: Fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fast a day before (the Vigil of) a major feast: Ascension, Dormition, All Saints, etc.
Communion Fast We do not eat after midnight on Saturdays until after the Liturgy on Sundays. Having said that, if you have a medical problem, (diabetes, etc.) just speak to your Priest in Confession and he will formally excuse you for serious cause.
